Only two days was in Chile, the delegation headed by BG John J. McGuiness, Deputy to Commanding General of RDECOM and Senior Commander, US Army Natick Soldier Systems Center (NSSC).
Within its narrow agenda, the delegation met with members of the CMM in order to learn more in detail the work done by the Centre and researchers at the Laboratory Modeling in Scientific Imaging and Visualization, which works since September 2011 in two initiatives related to social behavior and images that were requested by the RDECOM.
The project concerning to the images developed by the lab MOTIV will benefit directly U.S. Army, located in Natick, Massachusetts. This agency is responsible for researching, developing, fielding, and managing of all Soldier support item from food to clothing and shelter.
According to the director of the Laboratory Modeling in Scientific Imaging and Visualization of CMM, Jaime Ortega, although both projects are developed for the U.S. Army “are expected to be useful for the rest of the United States Armed Forces”.
The delegation that visited the CMM on Thursday November 3, in addition to BG McGuiness consisted of ITC-Americas Commander, COL Donald Gibson, the Tec. Director ITC-Argentina, Dr. Wei-Jen Su; CAPT. James Johnson and Dr . Ed Johnson.

Modeling in Scientific Imaging and Visualization Laboratory (MOTIV) In the last years, there has been a growing interest in the use of digital images as a tool to support assessment and decision-making. This can be seen in diverse areas such as, medicine as a mean to support clinical diagnosis, remote sensing for evaluation of canopies, astronomy for scientific purposes and biology in the study of cellular processes. Moreover, the development of new technologies, both in obtaining the images, such as increasing the computing capacity computational (HPC), have allowed a major breakthrough in the treatment field of digital imaging. Motivated by the above mentioned reasons, was created the Laboratory of MOdeling in scienTific Imaging and Visualization (MOTIV) within the CMM, whose mission is to respond to various needs in the field of digital images, coming from different players of the country. |
