Prof. Alejandro Jofré integrate ISI Journal Editorial Committee and International Scientific Committee

The International Conference on Continuous Optimization (ICCOPT), recently held in our country, corresponds to one of the most important events for Math Engineering experts in the field of Continuous Optimization.
This event, held every three years, with 2010 its third version, first performed in the southern hemisphere, was organized by the Centre for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) FCFM University of Chile.
While it is true that was a honor for CMM to be in charge of the event as a organizers, is no less true that it is no coincidence, since one of the main conclusions from the meeting is that the group optimization specialist associated with the CMM, is within the top five worldwide, after the United States, Germany, Britain, France and Spain.
Perhaps this explains why, despite the fact that Chile was victim this year of an earthquake and to come to this country is not exactly one of the cheapest destinations, the general concurrence of the event was high and many of the participants continued their stay in Chile with the aim of doing a research internship and work in collaboration with scientists at the CMM.
The select group of specialists representing our country in the event took a quite active role and joined the National Organizing Committee, which was composed as follows: Alejandro Jofre (President, Universidad de Chile), Roberto Cominetti (Vice President, University of Chile ) Rafael Correa (Second Vice-President, University of Chile), Felipe Álvarez (Universidad de Chile), Jorge Amaya (University of Chile), Óscar Cornejo (Catholic University of the Holy Conception), Fabián Flores-Bazán (Universidad de Concepcion) Pedro Gajardo (Technical University Federico Santa Maria), Fernando Ordóñez (University Southern California and University of Chile), Hector Ramirez (Universidad de Chile) and Jorge Rivera (Universidad de Chile).
Given the excellent organizational performance and the high level of the presentations given during ICCOPT 2010 will be held in a special issue of the ISI of specialty magazines, yet to be defined, containing the major conferences, where Alejandro Jofre, who led the work the Local Organizing Committee, will participate as Editor. Moreover, and as a result of this event, Professor Jofre had the honor of being invited to participate as a member of the International Scientific Committee for the forthcoming World Conference of the specialty (International Symposium on Mathematic Optimization) to be held in Berlin in 2012, an event that meets every three years around 3000 participants with an approximate total of 1500 papers.
