Algerian postdoctorate entrust us his impressions of the CMM before ending his scientific stay

How was your experience in the CMM and in this country?

Well, it was wonderful, Both in the scientific and in the social aspect. I enjoyed the environment in the CMM, in adition to be an interesting and important development of research in applied mathematics. In other aspects I can say, for example, that the administrative management is perfect, the work of the library is very efficient, the computing service staff is very diligent and always it is present for everything what it is needed.
In the social aspect, I feel very well. With my family had a great time in general as well. In conclusion,  me and my family, like both the country and its people.

Compared with other countries, how would you rate the technical level of science in Chile?

I think it is very high by comparing the number of persons involved in scientific projects. Furthermore, the management of research  is the best I have seen, is very efficient.

There is an specific area in which Chile will be pleasantly surprised by its high technical compared with other countries?

Certainly, in the field of optimization, whici is what I know, and it is surely the same case for other groups of research, is impressive because of the concentration of high level  people that work at different specialities.

The other point that surprised me, is the implication of the researchers in different areas of application, for example economics, resource management, natural resources, etc.

Has your experience in the CMM opened other professional options  in other centers of investigation in the world or in Chile?

What is sure is that the CMM is considered a center of international level. I knew it and I have come hearing about it from many years ago, which justifies the stays  that many foreign scientists are doing regularly from countries as France, USA and many more. So, the fact of being in the CMM allows the conection with these international networks, which is very important for the scientific personal development.
For example, I have also connected with many Chilean scietists, from Valparaíso, Concepción, and others. Regarding to my position in the CMM, it has given me many opportunities of scientific collaboration with experts in Chile and abroad. My agreement with the CMM will finish on January, 2011 and now I have been offered a research position in the UTFSM but we are still in talks.
