On one hand, the company was in the constant search of the improvement in the production and quality of its products, and on the other hand, Univerisdad de Concepción had a recognized entity of scientific exploration: its Center of Research in Mathematical Engineering (CI2MA), entity will help to the company in the search of its productive perfection. In this context, not more than two months, researchers began to work on the CI2MA, Raimund Bürger, Gabriel Gatica and Mauricio Sepúlveda, as a whole with Marcia Vidal, researcher of technology and development of MASISA, who also were present at the signature of the agreement.
Thanks to this agreement, there will be carried out projects of research and development that involve to both institutions, congresses, seminars and similar activities will be organized, and students of pre and post degree of the Engineering department Mathematics of the Universidad de Concepción will be able to realize practices and internships in MASISA, besides works of thesis co-directed.
The first project at which both entities are working togehter is called “Mathematical Modeling of the Process of Pressing in Boards”, activity that consists of the application of mathematical models (partial differential equations) and methods of solution brought near for the optimization of the process of pressing.
The CI2MA, created formally in May of this year, is the only center of research in Applied Mathematics located in regions, and one of its principal aims is, exactly, to give first hand services and to inject mathematical knowledge to solve concrete problems they present in the productive sectors and services.
