Call for papers for International Textbooks Seminar

The Textbook Unit of the Ministry of Education, in alliance with the Center of Advanced Research in Education (CIAE) and the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) of the Universidad de Chile, opened the official announcement for the International Seminar on School Texts of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, meeting that it will be carried out here in Santiago on September the 27, 28 and 29, 2010.

In this opportunity, Chileans and foreigners scientists and professionals in Education interested in being a part of this activity, will be able to present summaries of presentations, in Spanish or English, in some of the following topics:  

– Construction and production of mathematics, physics and chemistry textbooks. Testing and incorporation of users' opinions.

– Installation of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks in classroom: teacher's training and production of auxioloary and complementary material.

– Evaluation of the use of the textbooks in the classroom; reliable measurement of use and efficiency. Which factors do influence the use of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks? How to use the experience of feedback the textbook's prouction system??

– Role of the textbooks opposite to the emphasis in innovative approaches of the school curriculum, as: mathematical reasoning, investigation (inquiry) and solving problems.

– Teachers' training and preparation to evaluate, select and use mathematics, physics and chemistry textbooks. Use of textbooks in their own professional training

– Role of the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks in the teacher's prfessional training.

– Relation of the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks with the new technologies of information for the development of abilities in investigation, modeling and simulation.

– International comparative analysis of production, selection, purchase, distribution and use of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks.

– Relation of the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks with programs of intervention that contribute with their own materials, as: LEM and ECBI.

 – Scientists, specialists in didactics and teachers' participation in the production and evaluation of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry textbooks.

The summaries must have an extension not lager than 400 words and sent with a résumé from the authos(s) before March 30, 2010 to atroncoso@dim.uchile.cl. The inscriptions to come to the Seminar will be opened counting of March, 2010.

The Scientific Committee that backs up this initiative is composed by prominent figures of the scientific and educational circles in our country and it has already invited distinguished international experts in this subject.
