The CEO ofthe Pacific Steel Company (Compañía de Acero del Pacifico, CAP SA), Roberto deAndraca and the member of the board of INVERCAP S.A. (holding company of CAP),Fernando Reitich visited the CMM on Wednesday May 6. The high executivesexamined the activities of the Center and discussed a variety of topics ofmutual interest with some researchers and executive directors of CMM .
FernandoReitich, Ph.D in Mathematics andprofessor of the University of Minnesota, is another important shareholder ofCAP, who has a special interest in promoting academic-corporate collaborationin applied mathematics.
Reiticharrived to the Center accompanied by Roberto de Andraca also leads theChile-Japan Business Committee, given by his wide business relationship withJapan, through his long term partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation, whoseholding company is an important investor in CAP.
On FridayMay 8 visited CMM, Eduardo Ergas, a businessman who among other activities, hasbeen dedicated to sustainable tourism projects. In May 2008 opened an Ecolodgein the Valley of Codpa, located 120 km from Arica.
Another ofthe great passions of Ergas is the conservation of the natural heritage ofChile and that's why created the Ecoscience Foundation in 2004. Anotherobjective of this organization is to disseminate scientific knowledge andscientific researchers, for that, talks given by foreing an national scientists are organized by the Foundation. In one of these talks during 2008, attended CMMresearcher Carlos Conca and was since then that Ergas showed a great interestin learning about the Center.
During hisvisit, the entrepreneur was particularly interested in projects that aredeveloped in bioinformatics and the environment in the laboratories of CMM.
