Doctoral program of DIM has a new graduate student

With the guidance of Professor Raúl Manásevich,Jorge Huentutripay developed the thesis entitled “Study of Some Equationsof elliptic Cuasilineal nature,” and through it he obtained the degree ofDoctor of Engineering Sciences in Mathematical Modeling of DIM.

The research consisted to solve three differentproblems within the line of differential equations: “the existence of solutionsof a highly nonlinear differential equations system,” “regularity andasymptotic behavior of solutions to an equation on a bounded domain” and “thecharacterization of pseudo-radial solutions of some nonlinear equation with p-Laplacianoperator in the Cartesian plane.” The first two problems were proposed by his thesis advisor, while the latter was presented by Prof. Dr. Laurent Veron, University FrançoisRabelais of France

The judging committee was integrated by MartaGarcia Huidobro (PUC), Alejandro Jofré (DIM) and Ignacio Guerra (USACH), whoparticipated in the viva-voiceexamination held on Wednesday March 25 at the Center for Mathematical Modelingat FCFM.

About his experience during the DoctoralProgram, the new graduate highlighted the great mathematical preparationreceived, particularly in analysis. “The Faculty has top quality professor who are constantly producing papers and participatingin various conferences around the world. In human terms, this Ph.D. allowed meto grow as a mathematician, and to have the tools to interact with colleaguesin the difficult and competitive world of research, “he said.

Within the plans for the future, Jorge wants tocontinue working in research. “Continually I will try to apply to internalprojects at the University where I work (U. de Los Lagos), and to external ones,” heexplained.
