Prestigious ISI journals have faculty members of DIM as Associate Editors

Since the mid-'90s to the present day, facultymembers of the Department of Mathematical Engineering (Departamento deIngeniería Matemática, DIM), Roberto Cominetti, Rafael Correa, Manuel Del Pino,Carlos Conca, Manasevich Raúl, Alejandro Jofré and Marcos Kiwi comprise aselect group of researchers that are part of the editorial committee of renownedISI journals.

For DIM’s Director and researcher of the Centerfor Mathematical Modeling (CMM), Professor Marcos Kiwi, the participation ineditorial boards not only recognizes the career of researchers but also theinstitution that supports them. “This not only gives us prestige, it alsobrings us greater visibility in the international arena and makes us members ofrelevant networks of contacts,” he said. These factors are affecting, among others, that more and better students are entering the graduate andpostdoctoral programs, he added. For the researcher this kind of recognition isalso one of the parameters “to evaluate the quality of the scientificactivity of faculty members”.

Journal on DiscreteMathematics

Last January, Marcos Kiwi, Ph.D. in Mathematicsfrom Massachusetts Institute of Technology, joined the editorial committee ofthe SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics of the Society for Industrial andApplied Mathematics. This publication, whose impact factor is 0674 – publishesresearch articles on a wide range of topics, from pure and applied mathematics, including combinatorics and graph theory, discrete optimization and operationsresearch, theoretical computer science, among others. “I am so proud for thisnomination, because I believe it is the highest professionaldistinction that I have obtained,” said the researcher.

Setvalued and Variational Analysis

Since 2008 the faculty and deputy director of CMM, Alejandro Jofré, Doctor of Mathematics, Université de Pau, is associateeditor of Set Valued and Variational Analysis, published by Springer. Thispublication stands out for engaging in the mathematical analysis of variationand their uses. Also since 2004, Professor Jofré integrates the editorialcommittee of Optimization and Engineering, dedicated to engineering, mathematics and statistics, optimization, systems theory and others.

Boundary ValueProblems

Raúl Manasevich, Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences,University of California at Berkeley is involved, since 2007, inBoundary Value Problems, whose most recent impact factor is 0.48. The DIM-CMM’sresearcher is also associate editor since 1999 of the Journal of MathematicalAnalysis and Applications, which deals with the mathematical analysis and itsmany uses, increased in questions arising from physics, chemistry, biology andengineering.

Mathematical Modelsand Methods in Applied Sciences (M3AS)

The journal Mathematical Models and Methods inApplied Sciences (M3AS) from the 2003 has in its editorial committee professorand researcher at the CMM, Carlos Conca, PhD, Université Pierre et Marie Curie- Paris VI, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences at State, Université Pierre etMarie Curie. This publication aims to provide linkages between the sciences andapplied mathematical models.

Communications on Pureand Applied Analysis

The DIM-CMM researcher, Manuel Del Pino, Ph.D.in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota USA, participates in Communications onPure and Applied Analysis since 2001. This joint publication between theAmerican Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has focused on differentialequations, the main research topic of Professor Del Pino.

Journal of ConvexAnalysis

The Journal of Convex Analysis from the decadeof `90 has as associate editors faculty members Rafael Correa (1998), PhD, University of Clermont II, Doctor of State in MathematicalSciences, U. Blaise Pascal and associate researcher at the CMM, and Roberto Cominetti(1993), Doctor of Mathematics, Université Blaise Pascal, France.

Articles emphasize the areas of calculation ofvariations, control theory, functional analysis, differential equations, integral equations and optimization, among others.
