Prestigious investigators give tribute to Professor Rafael Correa

The eventbrought together students and researchers from important educational andresearch centers, who exchanged ideas on the latest advances in the field ofvariational analysis, an occasion where he also shared their admiration toProf. Rafael Correa, faculty of the Department of Mathematical Engineering(DIM) and associate researcher of CMM.

“Iadmire very much the passion and enthusiasm of Rafael, who is more than a greatinvestigator; he is passionate for his work which has led him to stand out bothnationally and internationally. He has helped with the scientific cooperationbetween France and Chile and is the soul and founder of two institutions soimportant as the DIM and the CMM, structures needed for the research in AppliedMathematics and the Optimization in Chile”, said the professor of theUniversity of Lyon I, France, Alfred Auslender.

For thehonoree, the most exciting thing of these days was reunite with friends whohave accompanied throughout his career. “These days have been very meaningfulto me. I encounter people with whom I have shared important moments during mylife and with whom I share a strong friendship. People who have enabled me notjust do math but also encouraged me to participate in such importantinitiatives as the construction of two institutions for the development ofscience, especially of mathematical sciences”, said professor Rafael Correa atthe closing session of the workshop, opportunity when he made a brief of his40-year career.

In theevent, held between 10 and 13 of November, participated important internationalexperts in variational analysis, including: Didier Aussel, Jean MarcBonnisseau, Jean-Baptiste Hiriart Urruty, Marc Lassonde, Boris Mordukhovich,Alfred Auslender, Jiri Outrata, Jean Paul Penot, Tyrrel Rockafellar, AlbertoSeeger, Lionel Thibault, Michel There, Roger Wets, Samir Adly, Dariusz Zagrodny.
