Nucleus Millennium creates website to learn math

For accessing to this educational system only a computer with Internet connexion is required. Once on www.fichasmatematicas.cl and with a few clicks, schoolchildren will be faced with curious mathematical facts in a playful way, but also very educational.

This new Website is an invitation todiscover that mathematics is everywhere and through it is possible to answerquestions about we do every day.

The webpage contains ten clarifyingposters, which address various areas of mathematics with approaches rangingfrom the more abstract to the more basic. “How to share a pizza withoutgenerating envy” or “The game of coincidences” are some of theproblems presented in a clear way and with the explanation of the math behindit.

For the researcher responsible of thisinitiative and former student at FCFM, Javiera Barrera, this project seeks tobring students from secondary education to the problems of science. “Inaddition this is to harness modern technology for scientific dissemination andto bring students into the world of probabilities” she adds.

Besides Javiera, also participated in thiscreation others researchers from the Millennium Nucleus Information Theory andRandomness and former students at DIM like Pierre Paul Romagnoli, and MaríaIsabel Cortez and the professors Servet Martínez and Salome Martínez.

The website was officially launched the firstweek of July at school Villa Aconcagua of Concón. Javiera expects to evaluatethis experience in August and detect the real impact of this initiative throughvisits to the website done by schools which are not located in big cities.
