CMM´s researcher Héctor Ramírez participate in International Workshop on Bioprocesses Modeling

The event organized by UFRO aimed to promote the application of tools for processes modeling based on biological matter and energy.

In order to include researchers from the areas of bioprocesses engineering and mathematics, the Universidad de la Frontera (UFRO) held on 27 March an international workshop that addressed, among other issues, the challenges for bioenergy production and water treatment.

The event was attended by the researcher from National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control France, INRIA, Bernard Oliver, and INRIA-CHILE director, Claude Puech.

At this panel ofexperts was invited the researcher and director of the Laboratory of Bioprocess of Natural Resources of the Center for Mathematical Modeling, U. de Chile, Héctor Ramírez, who discussed strategies for filling a sequential batch bioreactor for wastewater treatment.

Director of INRIA-CHILE explained that the intention of the agency is to create a Centre of Excellence and Innovation, aimed to a transfer platform to enable the introduction and experience French culture, both in the creation of start-ups as transfer to large companies and small entrepreneur.

Puech stressed the importance of bioprocesses on water treatment, because it is an ongoing problem and the methods that can be implemented are relevant for the future. In this context, the panel visited the facilities of water utility Aguas Andinas in Santiago, to learn about new equipment and become acquainted with the problems in water treatment.

Likewise, Oliver Bernard said: “We have put together our respective teams in the development framework of a consortium of experts in chemistry, biology and bioenergy, among others,” adding that Chile is exploring the possibility of a special development investigations into biogas.

The panel also featured the involvement Samriddhi via video conferences and David Palubin Buxy, University of Florida, USA and Fabio Carrera from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.

Bernard  is currently sub-head in the project Green Stars initiative whose budget exceeds 100 million euros, dedicated to microalgae cultivation and its uses.
