More than ten thousand people visited the 2nd Engineering and Sciences Festival, where the Center for Mathematical Modeling joined in with a stand, conferences, demonstrations and visits to its labs open to the general public from October 2nd to 4th.
Activities started on Thursday, when CMM raised its stand close to Engineering on Mathematics Department’s in the main tent of the event. In other yard of the Faculty, the CMM Lab of Education showed the results of its research in its own stand.
At the Center’s space, visitors knew and tried the portable medical ultrasonography and the Mobile Monitoring Station jacket on Thursday and Friday. Both devices were highlighted by AhoraNoticia News of Mega TV channel as good reasons to visit the festival.
In parallel, the event started with a full house Master Class lectured by National Prize of Exact Science and CMM researcher Carlos Conca.
The ‘Dad and Mom, I wanna study Engineering on Math’ forum drew a large audience, too. CMM researcher and DIM professor Héctor Ramírez joined in the discussion about present and future of the labor market for people who is studying or want to study this degree. President of Student Union Valentina Toro and the graduated Pablo Rodríguez took part in the conversation. The activity was covered by Las Últimas Noticias newspaper.
Next day, professor Jaime San Martín talked about ‘Center for Mathematical Modeling: work and projects’. In the conference, Faculty’s students, undergraduated of Engineering on Mathematics, CMM researchers and school students knew the relation between innovation and Mathematics and how this issue is addressed by CMM.
On Saturday, the Festival finished and, during the three days, almost 100 visitors knew the CMM labs -Motiv, Neorisk, LM4 and CMM-E- in a series of tour to the Center’s facilities . Radio Universidad de Chile also casted a report featuring the research of the Education Lab directed by Salomé Martínez.
