The Professional Development Unit of the Center for Mathematical Modeling from Universidad de Chile (CMM) was accredited as training technical organism (OTEC, for its acronym in spanish), because it was certified under the ISO 9001 and the NCh 2728:2003 norms by SGS company.
“Fundamentally, it’s accredited that management processes in the center have being checked and they accomplish with the defined standards. The most important thing is these processes will be checked continuously, which will allow improvements that, definitely, will impact positively in the current and future management of the center”, says Enrique Manzur, vice president of Financial and Institutional Management Affairs of the university.
So, CMM fulfills the law 19,967 that compels to OTEC to accomplish both norms. ISO 9001 and NCh 2728:2003 certify that courses, workshops, diplomas and other continuous training activities have a quality management system to provide an excellent service.
The Professional Development Unit can offer programs with Sence tax exemption for employers who fund the courses. CMM can also apply to Chile Compra public tenders.
“The main challenge is to expand our offer to other research areas as well as to keep a management system in continuous improvement, enhancing our processes and platforms”, explains Salomé Martínez, unit’s director.
For Manzur, certification and management challenges are key to support the scientific activity of the center: “The fact of a world-class center take this decision assumes a risk and a commitment to check and analyze these processes. Definitively, it is an example of leadership in different areas”.
