Teachers from ten cities joined in Winter Courses

Winter Courses on Mathematical Education organized by the Professional Development Unit at Universidad de Chile’s Center for Mathematical Modeling finalized last week. And teachers arrived from Arica to Punta Arenas for joining the 25-hour programs at CMM’s facilities in Santiago.

The activity is part of the CMM’s offer of continuing studies in education. These programs are a tool to improve the way Mathematics is taught and learned in Chilean classrooms.
In this case, teachers joined RPContenido strategy for professional development. This strategy focuses on the teacher by deepening specific mathematical content through problem solving.

Workshop offered this year were Resolución de Problemas y Geometría de 5º a 8º básico, Resolución de Problemas y Probabilidades de 7º básico a 2º medio, and Resolución de Problemas en Educación Media de 1º a 4º medio.

These workshops were the result of a long preparation of many months. During this period, experts prepared scheduling, contents, aims, and methodologies of every course.

On the closure ceremony, CMM researcher and ARPA academic director Patricio Felmer emphasized the relevance of these workshops. In his opinion, this program is an opportunity for in-service teachers to develop their careers by improving their mathematical knowledge .

He highlighted the origin of the teachers, from different Chilean cities: Calama, Viña del Mar, Santa Cruz, Concepción, Loncoche, Osorno, Puerto Montt, Chiloé, Punta Arenas y Santiago. They enjoyed during a week the 25-hour classroom courses at Universidad de Chile’s facilities in Santiago.
