With great public reception, the first version of the National Video Contest Chilean Women in Science ended up.
The activity organized by Universidad de Chile Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM), Center for Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Cedenna), and Academy of Science, received 68 videos.
Of these, 40 participated in the School category and 28 in the General Public category.
Now, it’s the turn of the jury. Claudia Pascual, Minister of Women and Gender Equality; María Teresa Ruiz, president of the Academy of Sciences; journalist Soledad Onetto; Natalia Mackenzie, director of Explora-Coniciyt; Dora Altbir, director of Cedenna, and CMM director Alejandro Jofré, will choose the best ones.
The awards will be held in October, explained CMM researcher Patricio Felmer, who organized the contest. The ceremony will coincide with the celebration of the National Week of Science & Technology in October.
Decentralized event
There were 154 participants: 58 in the general public category and 96 students.
25 schools from 16 cities competed: 49 videos come from Santiago and 19 regions.
The activity also impacted on the debate about the situation of women in science in Chile. Some numbers shows www.cientificaschilenas.cl platfom received 12,407 visits, 5,827 sessions, and 4,390 unique users The Facebook fan page got more than 2,000 followers, with 4,500 reactions (Likes).
