In a ceremony chaired by the Chile’s ambassador to the United States Juan Gabriel Valdés, the Center for Mathematical Modeling at Universidad de Chile (CMM) and the University of Washington (UW) eScience Institute signed in Seattle, Washington (United States), a memorandum of understanding.
This agreement aims to encourage the cooperation between both research centers in order to foster the development of collaborative projects and activities in fields of teaching and research.

“On the one hand, the MoU recognizes an existing collaboration. For many years, researchers from University of Washington have come to CMM and worked with us. They have trained people and worked in subjects such as energy, inverse problems and Astroinformatics, among others,” said Héctor Ramírez, who attended the event on behalf of the CMM. “On the other hand, it is great possibility to open new research lines not only with the eScience Institute, but with the entire university.”
Some of the issues addressed by the memorandum are joint research activities and publications; exchange of scholars and students for lectures, talks, conferences, colloquia, symposia, and other kinds of activities; and sharing of information.
The UW eScience Institute works in the forefront of research both in modern eScience techniques and technologies, which are those needed to research on massive datasets.
