CMM Director will join the new Advisory Council for the Higher Education Reform

The director of the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) of Universidad de Chile Alejandro Jofré was named member of the recently created Advisory Council for the Higher Education Reform by the ministry of Education (Consejo Consultivo para la Reforma en Educación Superior, in Spanish).

This council is composed by leading experts in the subject and will cooperate in the development of new policies for Higher Education and the generation of a new bill.

In that sense, CMM director has been called to join the council because of the center’s experience in mathematical education, where it has developed the national standards for the pre-service teachers training and continuing education courses for math teachers and schools’ principals.

Other members of this group are Sergio Bitar, graduated from the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of U. de Chile and former Minister of Education; Rosa Devés, PhD in Biochemistry and Universidad de Chile’s professor; Dante Contreras, PhD in Economics and professor at Universidad de Chile; Pedro Montt, president of the National Education Council; Alejandra Villarzú, social assistant and former coordinator of the Education programmes and policies at the General Education Division; Andrés Bernasconi, professor at Universidad Católica; Alfonso Muga, from the National Accreditation Commision; María José Lemaitre, sociologist with postgraduate studies in Education; Rodrigo González, lawyer and former chief at Ministry of Education’s Legal Division; and Francisco Martínez, chief at the Higher Education Division.

The first session of the Advisory Council is scheduled for September 4th at the Ministry of Education.
