CMM signs agreement with Italian research center

Recognizing the value of educational, cultural and scientific exchange between international research institutions, the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) and the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste, Italy, signed an agreement. The main objective is to encourage the exchange of faculty, researchers and graduate students as well as material of mutual interest.

One of the drivers of this agreement was Fethi Mahmoudi, CMM’s associate research, who between 2005 and 2007 was a postdoc in the Italian institution. “SISSA and CMM are more or less equivalent; both are research centers that develop different areas of Mathematics. Also in SISSA PhD students take courses like here, therefore, because of this agreement, our students can spend, for example, a semester in Italy, as well as, for SISSA’s students,” he explains.

According to the researcher, one of the advantages is that, in SISSA, all courses are taught in English and thanks to the agreements with the The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), known as ICTP, people interested can apply for scholarships for foreign students and researchers, such as the OEA Project, aimed at scientists from developing countries.

What is SISSA?

Postgraduate training and leading-edge research in various areas of Physics, Mathematics, and Neurosciences are the objectives of SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies of Trieste, Italy. SISSA was the first Italian university to offer the PhD degree, and has continued to do so with notable success. Since its founding in 1978, SISSA has prepared more than 900 young people for careers in research and teaching.

SISSA represents one of the leading scientific institutions in Italy and a noted center on the international stage. Its Campus is located in the Via Bonomea, a fleet of more than 100,000 (m2.), which together with other research centers both domestic and foreign make Trieste the “City of Science”.
