Codelco and Universidad of Chile Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) launched the PiensaCobre’s second version. It aims to promote research and innovations in projects related to the mining industry, and thereby to the country’s development.
“We continue exploring the imagination, intelligence and creativity of young people in search of new ideas that allow XXI century’s mining a great jump forward. This, starting the most advanced knowledge that is being generated in universities and the world now to add the value Codelco and the industry require,” said CMM director Alejandro Jofré.
The contest is framed in the agreement between Codelco and the CMM, which seeks to develop new knowledge and technologies to improve the productivity of the mining industry.
“The advances in new mining technologies contribute to the scientific, academic, economic, social and cultural development of the country and require the formation of the most advanced human capital,” said Jofré.
Jaime Rivera, corporate manager of Business & Innovation at Codelco, said: “We seek to attract knowledge from different fields. One of them is the academy. We encourage students to be part of this challenging initiative that contribute to the transformation and innovation of Codelco.” The executive expects the theses complement the current way of innovation at the Chilean mining company with a fresh look and robust and critical analysis of the data, since “needed change at Codelco is necessary for the development of Chile and, at the same time, represents itself an opportunity to enhance the capabilities and innovative ideas of students from different universities in the country.”
