Department of Mathematical Engineering has a new Doctor

The research was carried out in co-tutelle with the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI and was supervised By Felipe Alvarez, faculty and DIM's director, and Sylvain Sorin, professor at the French university. The jury panel included: Hedy Attouch, Michel Benaim, Jean-Bernard Baillón, Roberto Cominetti, Pascal Frey and Victor Ayala.

In the viva-voice examination, on December 10, Juan received very good feedback from the jury panel about his presentation and written work.

The first four chapters of the thesis are the result of a comprehensive bibliografic review. ''The information was scattered everywhere and it was necessary to order it, to know who said what and when,'' explained the new Doctor. He is verysatisfied with this first part of his thesis, hoping that it may be publish as a book in the medium term.

Juan Peypouquet, a Venezuelan national, is one of the four Doctors who was conferred the degree in Mathematical Modeling in 2007. ''It was very hard work from which I learned a lot (…) I thank everyone, but especially to Felipe (Alvarez) and Pablo Dartnell (Program Coordinator) for their great support and assistance'' he concluded.
