For the third consecutive year, the Center for Mathematical Modeling awards thebest student of Mathematical Civil Engineering. This year it was elected the studentOmar Vargas Larré who left behind other candidates with an average grade 6.43.
This contest is for students who are in the final stage of their careers andits purpose is to afford the student's participation in an internationalconference or workshop.
While acknowledging their good grades, Omar did not think he would be thewinner. “I was not expecting this. There is a letter you have to submitexplaining how the money is going to be spent and it is still not clear to mehow to use, it my idea is to go to a conference to help me prepare the memoryand I still have no subject for it, ” he said. In the coming weeks Omar expectsto find an advisor and the subject for his memory and thus be able to finish itby next year.
About what this award means to him, Omar said: “I think this is the firstaward that I receive at the University for being a good student and that isvery rewarding.” He also explained that initiatives like this make the studentsmore interested for the academy.
