Dr. Jean Marc Gambaudo was awarded as Honorary Professor of FCFM

Less than 36 hours, Dr. Jean Marc Gambaudo, Directeur de Recherche the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) stayed in Santiago. His brief visit had no other purpose than participate in a simple ceremony in which he received at the hands of the director of the Department of Mathematical Engineering (DIM), Prof. Felipe Alvarez, the degree of Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Science (FCFM).

During the ceremony, held on Saturday November 25th, DIM’s director stressed the important role played by the doctor Gambaudo in the Latinamerican and Chilean developing of the mathematics, and more specifically within the Faculty’s Doctoral Program in Mathematical Modeling, in which has already co-supervised three theses.

The responsibility for delivering a brief biography of the awarded was Professor Alejandro Maass. This overview was complemented with Professor Servet Martinez comments, who recognizes doctor Gambaudo as one of many people responsible for promoting the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) as a Mixed Unit of France’s National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), one of the most prestigious scientific research institutions in Europe.

In a brief statement, Professor Rafael Correa highlighted the professional and personal quality of the laureate. "I admire him as a mathematician and as a person, what surprise me is his openness, strength and attractiveness that he has shared with the community of DIM-CMM community” concluded.

Jean Marc Gambaudo is recognized as a leading scientist with international prestige in the area of mathematical theory of dynamical systems. His first visit to Chile was in 1985 when he was pursuing his Ph.D. thesis of Docteur d’Etat at the Université de Nice. Over the past twenty years he has returned several occasions to the country to work on research projects with academics and researchers from DIM-CMM and has organized various scientific activities in Chile, as the first CIMPA School in the mid – nineties.
