In his first official visit to Chile, Janez Potocnik met with members of the CMM to know in detail the work of this center of excellence, which has important activities with the European scientific community.
The director of CMM, Dr. Jaime San Martín and the European Science and Research Commissioner, Janez Potocnik had a meeting on Monday afternoon. The main purpose of this reunion was address the different applications in those the Center is involved, as well as its most important projects in mining, telecommunication, education and in the Forest area, among others.
Potocnik first visit to Chile is an opportunity to strengthening Science and Technology links with South America. With that in mind, the Commissioner had meetings with the President of the National Commission for Science and Technology, Vivian Heyl and the Economy Minister and member of the Chilean National Innovation Council, Alejandro Ferreiro.
Commisioner Potocnik trip has allowed to discuss about the opportunities open to Chile within the EU’s 7th Research Framework Programme. Since the sign of the Scientific and Technology agreement between Chile and the EU in 2002, our country has participated an increasing number of projects, achieving a total of 58 in 2007. In two of those, researcher of the Center for Mathematical Modeling work.
The Commissioner Janez Potocnik, who is in Chile with members of the European Commission, also spoke at a Conference of Chilean National Innovation Council.
