The Foundation Andrónico Luksic Abaroa honored 25 students who stood out in the inter scholar Tournament in Mathematics. They will receive a grant consisting of a monthlycontribution that can be extended until they complete their universitystudies.
The awarded students come mostly from schools from La Granja, La Pintana, San Ramon and Santiago, among others.
There are 24 scholarships for pupils consisting in a monthly payment of $ 53,000 pesos for the year 2008, which may be renewed until the students complete their university studies, provided they maintain the academic excellence that made them worthy of this benefit.
It also provided a $ 83,000 scholarship to Gonzalo Jimenez, student at the Universidad de Chile, who represented the Instituto Nacional in the last scholar tournament.
Looking for talent
The Inter Scholar Tournament in Mathematics is an activity organized by the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Chile and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Santiago de Chile.
The tournament began in 2003 and aims to identify new talent in mathematics. It has also become a platform for integration, overcoming and a way to break the cycle of poverty. During the year 2007 it was supported by the Programme EXPLORA CONICYT.
