International Workshop for faculty and future teachers

Students teachers in Math and faculty across the country attended the workshop “Supporting the preparation of teachers to teach mathematics,” an activity in which national and foreign experts shared their experience in creating new materials for future of Elementary Education teachers in Math.

During the two days that lasted this meeting, they discussed the Standards of Initial Training and project INICIA and, among others, were addressed issues related to challenges in the implementation of standards in teaching education, use of resources and opportunities to integrate disciplinary and pedagogical training of teachers.

This activity was organized by the researchers of the Fondef project “Resources for Initial Training of Elementary School teachers.” For the director, Salomé Martínez, this international meeting was an opportunity to learn what is being done in other countries about the preparation of new materials for future teachers in mathematics. “International experts told what has been the experience of teacher training in the United States, Colombia and Uruguay, specifically on the resources being used in teaching careers. Also they shared what kind of attributes must have these resources, because the math book is not just any book, it must have certain characteristics to have a real impact on the training of future teachers, “the academic said.

This workshop, attended mainly by academics and students in teaching careers in mathematics from different institutions of the country, had Sybilla Beckmann as speaker from University of Georgia, who has been recognized for her great contribution to the training of teachers in the United States for her book Mathematics for Elementary Teachers with Activity Manual, one of the best texts in the preparation of future teachers and which in 2010 published its third edition. In this activity also participated María Alejandra Sorto, Ph.D. in mathematics education and research team member of the Fondef project.
