“This is an opportunity to rescue, strengthen, sistematize and integrate issues of classroom management for Math teaching”, said Salomé Martínez, director of Education Lab at Center for Mathematical Modeling, when she explain the objectives of the workshop ‘Taller de Estrategias de Gestión de Aula para la Enseñanza de la Matemática’ which its first part was held on July 29th and 31st.
During the activity, 30 teachers of Primary Schools reviewed and learned about successful experiences and methods from Chile and the world.
The workshop is part of the Fondef Project ‘Herramientas para fortalecer la formación de profesores de educación básica basadas en experiencias de enseñanza de la matemática en aula’ where best useful practices for the concrete environment of the classroom are collected.
Through the discussion of chilean and international cases, attendees analyzed different experiences on classroom management that showed the teacher-student interaction when they answered questions, discussed the class contents and provided feedback to student. After that, they saw a serie of videos from the recordings CMM researchers are doing since March 2014 in different classrooms.
“Teachers are the main characters of this Project”, explained Martínez.
Second part of this workshop will be on August 5th and 7th. It will be focused on strategy, techniques and methods to do and plan math discussions as a platform to promote the student thinking.
Next months, the CMM team will continue the recordings. The Fondef final objective is creating interactive multimedia products designed according to Chilean reality.
