Postdoctoral from Luxembourg tells his experience in CMM

– How was your experience in the CMM and in this country?

Before I came to Chile, I had the impression that the University of Chile, and CMM in particular, had a very good reputation in South America. While my stay permanence, this reputation proved to be well deserved. There are some very extraordinary researchers here. I liked a lot to travel inside Chile, because there are a lot of beautiful places to see, and the landscape is very diverse: mountains, beach, volcanoes, desert, glaciers, etc. Santiago is a nice city which offers a lot. What I didn't like in Santiago are crime and pollution.

– Compared with other countries, how to rate the technical level of science in Chile?

At the few leading universities in the country, the level is excellent. But there are many universities in Chile that would not deserve the name “university” in Europe.

– Is there an specific area in which you was pleasantly surprised by its high technical level, compared with other universities in the world?

I can only speak about Mathematics and Computer Science, where the University of Chile is on a high level worldwide.

– Does your experience in the CMM has opened a new career or professional options in any other research center in the world or the country?

A few options have opened during my stay here. I do not know how much my experience in the CMM helped. I think, in research, employers like to see applicants that have worked in different places.
